Match Results Day

  • I will be unavailable to receive emails the day results are released.

If you will be unable to receive email or access your residency's Match results online on Match Results Day, you can provide a written and signed request to NMS on residency letterhead, prior to Match Results Day, to send the email of the results to an alternate contact.

The alternate email will not replace the email currently on file in the NMS Match System. All account and residency contact information will remain the same.

The alternate contact will receive an email with the MedPhys Match results on Match Results Day. NMS will send the result to only one email address for each residency.

  • Can I get a copy of my Rank Order List?

You are able to view and print a program's Rank Order List in the NMS Match System for 4 days after the Match Results Day. You are strongly encouraged to print a copy of your Rank Order List(s) for your residency's records before the information is removed from the NMS Match System.

  • Why do we have to wait to get the results?

NMS spends time between the Rank Order List deadline and Match Results Day checking and re-checking the data to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the MedPhys Match results. Before we process the MedPhys Match, we look for potential errors or mistakes in the rankings submitted by applicants and programs, such as applicants who may have ranked the wrong program or residencies that may have ranked the wrong applicant. We are able to catch some (but not all) errors, and it does take a significant amount of time to reach the MedPhys Match participants to follow-up, verify, and correct these mistakes. Program Directors and applicants are generally busy and can be very difficult to reach. We then have to run the matching algorithm, verify the results and prepare the results for distribution via the various channels. While it may seem like it takes a long time to get your result, we are able to deliver the results in a time frame that is equal to or less than that of other matching programs of comparable (or even smaller) size in other professions.

Post-Match

  • What is the Post-Match Process?

The Post-Match Process is the period after release of the MedPhys Match results when residencies with unfilled positions will try to fill those positions with applicants who did not match. No action to fill positions available in the Post-Match Process is to be taken prior to 12:00 p.m. noon Eastern Time on Match Results Day.

  • How does the Post-Match Process work?

Following release of the MedPhys Match results, residencies with available positions are free to contact and fill those positions with applicants who did not obtain a position. NMS is not involved in the filling of positions during the Post-Match Process.

Beginning at 12:00 p.m. noon Eastern Time on March 27, 2024, a List of Programs with Available Positions will be provided to unmatched applicants in the NMS Match System. Residencies will have access to information on unmatched applicants.

Residencies that fill positions during the Post-Match Process are not required to notify NMS of the placement.
