Registration & Fees

  • When is the registration deadline?

It is recommended that you register your residency to participate in the ORMatch by October 4, 2023, although registrations can be accepted after that date. You should register as soon as possible so your program can be added to the List of Participating Programs and applicants will know that your residency is participating in ORMatch.

Your residency will not be able to obtain applications from the ORMatch Application Service until it is registered for ORMatch.

The final deadline for programs to register to participate in ORMatch is February 27, 2024. However, it takes a significant amount of time to collect applications and conduct interviews. Many applicants submit their rankings of programs before the Rank Order List deadline. Therefore you should ensure that your program is registered well before the final deadline, so that your residency has enough time to evaluate applicants and be ranked by applicants.

Account & Login

  • What login credentials do I use?

To log into the NMS Match System, you must use the email and password previously established for your residency site in the NMS Match System (e.g., when you registered your residency site for the 2024 ORMatch).

  • What do I need to do as a new Program Coordinator?

For residency sites already registered to participate in ORMatch:

You will need to obtain access to the NMS Match System for your residency site. If you can obtain the NMS Match System login credentials from the previous Program Coordinator, you should log into the NMS Match System using those login credentials and update the Account and Profile information for your residency site.

If you cannot obtain the login credentials from the previous Program Coordinator, please contact NMS. You will have to submit a signed, written request on residency site letterhead notifying NMS of the change in Program Coordinator and asking for the login credentials to be reset.

For residency sites not yet registered to participate in ORMatch:

If possible, access the registration email sent to your residency site and use the link in that email to initiate the registration process. If you cannot access the registration email, contact NMS to request that we send you an email with access to the online registration system for your residency site. You will need to submit to NMS a signed, written request on residency site letterhead with the following information:

    • Name of Program Coordinator
    • Email address of Program Coordinator
    • Name of Institution
    • Residency Site Category and Emphasis Areas
  • How do I add a new program or track?

For residency sites already registered to participate in ORMatch:

    • Log in to the NMS Match System
    • Select Account from the menu
    • Select the Add Program button at the bottom of the page
    • Enter the number of positions to be offered in the program and a program description
    • Select the Add this Program button

For residency sites not yet registered to participate in ORMatch:

    • Access the online registration system using the link provided in the registration email sent to the residency site by NMS, or Log in to the NMS Match System if you have already created an account in the NMS Match System
    • Select the Add New Program link at the bottom of the program information section of the Residency Site and Program Information page
    • Enter the number of positions to be offered in the program and a program description
    • Select the Add button

Important Notices for Adding New Programs

    • The program description must indicate a Category Title, and may optionally include up to two additional Emphasis Areas, separated by slashes (e.g., Primary Care Optometry/Ocular Disease)
    • The description may include additional information that will make it unique and clearly distinguished from any other program offered by your residency
    • The description of your existing program(s) may also need to be altered to ensure they are distinct and descriptive of the program offering
    • Each new program must offer at least one position
    • The new program will be assigned a Code Number automatically by the NMS Match System

Withdraw

  • What are the implications of withdrawing?

A withdrawn program will not receive applications, will not be included in the matching process, will not be matched with any applicants, and will not be included on the list of programs with available positions that is posted for the Post-Match Process. Any rankings that may have been submitted for the program will not be used in the Match.

Programs that certify a Rank Order List and do not withdraw by the Rank Order List deadline will be included in the Match and will be obligated to accept the ORMatch results.
