Results For Programs

2024 ORMatch

Match Results

Programs must log into the NMS Match System to access their Match results.

Log Into the NMS Match System
  • Match Result Information Available
    • A report that lists the applicants matched to your program and indicates whether the program has any unfilled positions. The Director of Residencies at your program's affiliated school or college of optometry also has access to this report.
    • A List of Programs with Available Positions in the Post-Match Process.
    • A file of information on applicants who submitted an application or Rank Order List, were left unmatched, and may still be seeking a position.
    • A list of the result obtained by applicants who participated in ORMatch and were matched to a position.

You must send a letter of confirmation of the Match result to the applicants matched to your program as soon as possible and no later than 10 working days after the ORMatch results release date. Applicants must return the letter in accordance with the program’s instructions within 30 days of the release of the ORMatch results. If an applicant does not honor their Match commitment, report the case to either NMS or ASCO.

Although NMS makes every effort to provide you with your Match result expeditiously, failure to receive your result in a timely manner does not affect your obligation to the applicants matched to your residency site.

In June, ORMatch will send programs updated NBEO Score Report Data for all of their matched applicants.

Post-Match Process

Following release of the results, programs with unfilled positions are permitted to seek and fill positions that remain available independently of ORMatch.

A List of Programs with Available Positions is posted publicly to unmatched applicants on the ORMatch website. Information on this list may be updated by programs.

List of Programs With Available Positions
  • Instructions for Programs to Update the List of Available Positions

Programs must log into the NMS Match System in order to update their contact information or the number of positions shown on the List of Programs with Available Positions. Programs that did not register, or that registered but withdrew from the Match, are not able to update their information.

Programs that were left with unfilled positions are shown on the list of available positions and are opened automatically to accept applications during the Post-Match Process from registered applicants who did not match.

    • Updating Contact Information: Changes to contact information are made in the Profile section of the NMS Match System. Contact changes will apply only to the List of Programs with Available Positions, and will not be reflected permanently in NMS records. Permanent changes to contact information after the Rank Order List deadline must be submitted to NMS via email, not through the NMS Match System.

    • Updating the Number of Available Positions: The number of Post-Match positions available can be changed from the Program Dashboard. Programs can be added to the List by setting the number of available positions to a number greater than zero, or removed from the List by setting the number of available positions to zero.

If a program is removed from the list, it will be closed for applications.

Programs are able to obtain applications from applicants in any manner they desire, including directly from applicants. Applicants that registered for ORMatch can access the NMS Match System during the Post-Match Process to send applications to programs online. Individuals who did not register for ORMatch prior to the Rank Order List deadline but are seeking positions in the Post-Match Process must send applications to programs directly. Programs have a default application deadline date of June 15, 2024 in the Post-Match Process, but that can be changed at the program's discretion.

If a program fills a position in the Post-Match Process, the program should remove the position from the NMS Match System. The program may also send an email request to NMS to include the NBEO scores for the newly appointed applicant in the distribution of NBEO scores for matched applicants, which takes place in June. In order for the request to be granted, the program must notify NMS by email of the filled position and the newly appointed applicant must confirm their acceptance of the position with NMS. The deadline to complete this request and confirmation process is May 31, 2024.

The NMS Match System will close on June 30, 2024. Programs will not be able to make updates, access applications, or download any information after that date.
