Match Results Day

  • Why do I have to wait to get the Match result?

NMS spends time between the Rank Order List deadline and Match Results Day checking and re-checking the data to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the Match results. Before we can process the Match, we look for potential errors or mistakes in the rankings submitted by applicants and programs, such as applicants who may have ranked the wrong track or programs that may have ranked the wrong applicant. We are able to catch some (but not all) errors, and it does take a significant amount of time to reach the Match participants to follow-up, verify, and correct these mistakes. Program Directors and applicants are generally busy and can be very difficult to reach. We then have to run the matching algorithm, verify the results, and prepare the results for distribution via the various channels. While it may seem like it takes a long time to get your result, we are able to deliver the results in a time frame that is equal to or less than that of other matching programs of comparable (or even smaller) size in other professions.

  • I will be unavailable to receive emails the day results are released.

If you will be unable to receive email or access your program's Match results online on the Match Results Day, you can provide a written and signed request to NMS on program letterhead to send the email of the results to an alternate contact.

The alternate email will not replace the email currently on file in the NMS Match System. All account and program contact information will remain the same.

The alternate contact will receive an email with the Match results. NMS will send the result to only one email address for each program.

  • Can I get a copy of my Rank Order List?

You are able to view and print a track's Rank Order List in the NMS Match System until 4 days after the Match Results Day. You are strongly encouraged to print a copy of your Rank Order List for your program's records before it is removed from the NMS Match System.

  • Can I get a copy of my results?

An email with a PDF file containing your results is emailed to you on Match Results Day. Your results are also available online in the NMS Match System until May 31, 2024. You are strongly encouraged to save a copy of your results for your program's records before it is removed from the NMS Match System.

Post-Match Process

  • What is the Post-Match Process?

The Post-Match Process (sometimes referred to as the Unmatched Applicant Program) is the period from April 17, 2024 to May 31, 2024 when programs with unfilled positions will try to fill those positions with applicants who did not match. No action to fill positions available in the Post-Match Process is to be taken prior to 12:00 p.m. noon Eastern Time on April 17, 2024.

  • How does the Post-Match Process work?

Starting at 12:00 p.m. noon Eastern Time on April 17, 2024, programs with available positions are free to contact and fill those positions with unmatched applicants. NMS is not involved in the filling of positions during the Post-Match Process.

Applicants will have access to a list of programs with available positions. Programs will have access to information on unmatched applicants.

Programs that fill positions during the Post-Match Process are not required to notify NMS of the placement; however, programs should update the number of positions available in the NMS Match System.

Programs that have a new position become available for the Post-Match Process should notify AGCPD/GCEA prior to adding the position to the list.
