The 2025 Genetic Counseling Admissions Match

Match Results

Programs must log into the NMS Match System to access their Match result.

Log Into the NMS Match System
  • Match Result Information Available in the NMS Match System
    • A downloadable PDF Match Result Report which shows the applicants matched to your program, the number of positions offered and filled, and the results obtained by applicants ranked by your program. If your program offered more than one track in the Match, the results for all tracks are available in the report accessible from the Dashboard of any track that participated in the Match.
    • A list of matched applicants which shows where each applicant who obtained a position in the Match was placed.
    • A file of information on registered applicants who did not obtain a position.

You must send a letter of confirmation of the Match result to the applicants matched to your program within 10 working days of the release of the Match results. Applicants must return the letter in accordance with the program's instructions within 17 working days of the release of the Match results, not later than May 9, 2025.

Although NMS makes every effort to provide you with your Match result expeditiously, failure to receive your result in a timely manner does not affect your obligation to the applicants matched to your program.

Statistics

Post-Match Process  (Unmatched Applicant Program)

Programs with unfilled positions may offer those positions to applicants who did not obtain a position in the Match. NMS is not involved in the filling of positions during the Post-Match Process but supports it by providing the information outlined below:

List of Programs with Available Positions

Programs with unfilled positions from the Match can choose to add themselves to the List of Programs with Available Positions which is made available to unmatched applicants in the NMS Match System.

The list can be updated at any time until May 31, 2025. Positions can be added or removed as needed. Programs that have a new position become available that was not offered in the Match should notify GCEA prior to adding the position to the list.

  • Instructions for Updating the List of Programs with Available Positions

Programs must log into the NMS Match System in order to update their contact information or the number of positions shown on the List of Programs with Available Positions. Programs that have a new position become available for the Post-Match Process should notify GCEA prior to adding the position to the list.

Programs that did not register must contact NMS to get access to the Post-Match Process.

    • Updating Contact Information: Changes to contact information are made in the Profile section of the NMS Match System. Contact changes will apply only to the List of Programs with Available Positions, and will not be reflected permanently in NMS records. Permanent changes to contact information after the Rank Order List deadline must be submitted to NMS in writing, not through the NMS Match System.

    • Updating the Number of Available Positions: The number of Post-Match positions available can be changed from the Track Dashboard. Tracks can be added to the list by setting the number of available positions to a number greater than zero, or removed from the list by setting the number of available positions to zero.

The system will close for updates on May 31, 2025.

Information on Unmatched Applicants

All programs can access an Excel file with information on unmatched applicants from the NMS Match System. It is recommended that programs download a copy of the file, even if they currently have no available positions, in case a position becomes available in the future. The file will remain accessible online until May 31, 2025. If a position becomes available after that date, programs may request special access to the file from GCEA.

Programs are free to contact unmatched applicants to fill any positions that remain available. Programs may request that interested unmatched applicants complete an application, provide associated materials, and attend an interview. Programs may also ask the applicant for permission to talk to the programs where the applicant previously interviewed.
