The 2024 APPIC Match

Withdraw from the Match

The 2024 APPIC Internship Matching Program

Things to Know

If you accept a position at a program that is not participating in the Match, or if you decide not to submit a Rank Order List for any other reason, you must withdraw yourself from the Match.

Participation status changes for Phase II of the Match can be submitted in the NMS Match System from February 21, 2024 until March 13, 2024.

Applicants who withdraw will not be included in the matching process, but they are still bound by the terms of the Applicant Agreement and APPIC Match Policies. However, withdrawn applicants are permitted to seek positions after each Phase of the Match as described below.

  • Applicants who withdrew from Phase I of the Match are permitted to participate in Phase II. They are able to access information on programs with positions available in Phase II, apply to those programs, and submit a Rank Order List for Phase II of the Match.
  • Applicants who withdraw from Phase II of the Match and who have not obtained an internship position are permitted to participate in the Post-Match Vacancy Service operated by APPIC after the results of Phase II of the Match are released.

If you do not intend to submit a Rank Order List for Phase II of the Match, you must withdraw from Phase II before the Phase II Rank Order List deadline. If you withdrew from both Phase I and Phase II of the Match prior to the Phase I Rank Order List deadline, there is nothing further you need to do; your withdrawal will be carried over automatically to Phase II and you do not need to withdraw again from Phase II.

If you are withdrawn in Phase II, but subsequently decide that you want to submit a Rank Order List for the Match, you can Reinstate yourself using the NMS Match System prior to the Rank Order List deadline for Phase II of the Match.

Implications of Withdrawing

If you withdraw from the Match in Phase II, you will not be matched to a position. Any rankings of programs you may have submitted for Phase II will not be used in the Match.

While you are withdrawn, your withdrawn status is visible to programs.

Withdrawing from the Match does not affect your eligibility to participate in the Match in future years.

If you enter and certify a Rank Order List and do not withdraw by the Rank Order List deadline, your rankings will be included in the Match. If you are matched with a program, you must accept the position with which you are matched as described in the Applicant Agreement and the APPIC Match Policies. Violations of the policies of the Match may result in a formal complaint submitted to APPIC. The APPIC Board may decide to impose penalties on those who violate the policies.
