Identifying your Academic Training Program

When you register for the Match you must indicate whether or not your academic training program is an APPIC Doctoral Program Associate or CCPPP member, as described below. A listing of academic training programs that are APPIC Doctoral Program Associates and/or CCPPP members can be accessed from the link provided at the bottom of this page.

Many (but not all) academic training programs subscribe to services provided by APPIC; these programs are referred to as APPIC Doctoral Program Associates. APPIC Doctoral Program Associates receive notification directly from NMS of the result obtained by each of their students in each Phase of the Match. To facilitate this reporting process you must indicate whether or not your academic training program is an APPIC Doctoral Program Associate, and if it is, you must identify your program by its APPIC Associate Number when you register.

The fee you pay to register for the Match will also depend on your academic program. Applicants from APPIC Doctoral Program Associates or programs that are members of the Canadian Council of Professional Psychology Programs (CCPPP) pay a registration fee of $130; applicants from programs that are neither APPIC Associates nor CCPPP members pay a registration fee of $160. Therefore, it is important that you correctly identify your academic training program when you register for the Match.

Please note: APPIC Associate or CCPPP member status applies to individual doctoral programs within a school or university, not to the school or university as a whole. In a school or university that has more than one doctoral program in psychology, it may be that one program is an APPIC Associate or CCPPP member and another program is not. For example, it is possible that a doctoral program in counseling psychology is an APPIC Associate while a clinical psychology program at the same university is not. Thus, if your school or university has multiple doctoral programs in psychology, be sure that you indicate your specific academic program correctly when you register for the Match.

Academic training programs that are APPIC Doctoral Program Associates are identified by their APPIC Associate Number. APPIC Doctoral Program Associates have been notified that their students are required to provide the program's APPIC Associate Number when they register for the Match, and have been asked to provide the Number to their students. You can also obtain the APPIC Associate Number for your academic training program from the listing of schools and APPIC Associate Numbers that can be access from the link provided at the bottom of this page. If your program provides you with an APPIC Associate Number that differs from the APPIC Associate Number shown in that listing, please check with your DCT, and have your DCT contact NMS if necessary.

Each APPIC Doctoral Program Associate will be provided with a list of the applicants who have indicated they are from that program, to confirm that students have identified the academic training program correctly when they registered for the Match.

For Applicants from Academic Programs in Canada: Some academic programs in Canada are APPIC Associates. Furthermore, some programs belong to CCPPP. Canadian programs that are APPIC Associates (whether or not they are also CCPPP members) are identified as APPIC Doctoral Program Associates. Canadian programs that are not APPIC Associates, but are CCPPP members, are identified in the listing by the code "CCPPP" instead of an APPIC Associate Number. Applicants from programs that are CCPPP members are eligible for the lower registration fee, even if their academic program is not an APPIC Doctoral Program Associate.

Please note: Not all academic training programs are APPIC Doctoral Program Associates or CCPPP members. If you are from an academic training program that is not an APPIC Associate or CCPPP member, an option is provided when you register to enable you to indicate you are from a program that is not an APPIC Associate or CCPPP member. Whether or not your program is an APPIC Associate or CCPPP member will have no impact on your participation in the Match (other than your registration fee) or on the results you achieve in the Match. The identity of your academic program will be used by NMS only to verify your registration fee and to facilitate the reporting of Match results to academic programs that are APPIC Doctoral Program Associates.
