Applicant Registration
Applicants who wish to register for the APPIC Internship Matching Program for psychology internship positions beginning in 2009 should follow the procedures outlined below.
Prior to Registering
- Carefully review the information provided on this web site that describes how the Match works. In particular, review the Overview section, including the Eligibility criteria and Rules for participation, and the section describing the Match Process, including the Example and Discussion. You may wish to print those pages for future reference.
- Review the APPIC Match Policies and Schedule of Dates provided on this web site. All participants must abide by these policies and dates. Copies of these pages are included in the document containing the Applicant Agreement, which can be downloaded by following the instructions provided at the bottom of this page. Alternatively, you can also print the pages displayed on this web site for future reference.
Procedure for Registering
- To register for the Match, you must submit to National Matching Services Inc. a signed Applicant Agreement, together with the appropriate non-refundable, non-transferrable applicant registration fee.
- You should download and print the Applicant Agreement by following the instructions provided at the bottom of this page. The file that you download includes a memorandum of instructions, which you should read carefully before completing the Agreement, as well as the APPIC Match Policies and the Schedule of Dates.
- Two applicants who wish to coordinate their matches (e.g., obtain positions in the same geographic location) may participate in the Match as a "Couple". Each applicant must first register to participate in the Match as an individual; applicants identify themselves as a couple when they submit their Rank Order Lists for the Match. Click here to obtain further instructions for participating in the Match as a couple.
- In order to complete the Applicant Agreement you will need to obtain certain code numbers from the Listing of School Codes and APPIC Subscriber Numbers available on this web site.
- It is recommended that your Applicant Agreement and non-refundable fee to register for the Match be received at National Matching Services Inc. by December 1, 2008. NOTE: If your Applicant Agreement is postmarked after December 31, 2008, your Director of Clinical Training must also sign your Applicant Agreement.
- Following receipt of your Applicant Agreement and fee, National Matching Services Inc. will send to you, either by e-mail or by regular mail, a confirmation of the information on file for you, including your applicant Code Number for the Match. You should provide your applicant Code Number to the programs to which you apply.
Applications to Programs
- Registration for the Match does NOT constitute an application to any of the programs participating in the Match. You must still apply directly to any and all programs in which you are interested. Application deadlines for programs vary; therefore, you should check with each program as soon as possible regarding its application deadline dates.
- APPIC has developed a standardized application for psychology internships (AAPI) which is accepted by most (but not all) internship programs. The AAPI can be downloaded from the APPIC web site at www.appic.org.
- APPIC also provides an Online Directory of internship and postdoctoral programs that are APPIC members, which is available to all applicants from the APPIC web site at www.appic.org.
