SUMMARY STATISTICS AND COMPARISONS TO PREVIOUS YEARS

Summary statistics for the last five years, overall and for each program type, are shown in the tables below. The numbers in parentheses in the columns for 2012 represent the changes as compared to last year.

The overall number of participating applicants, positions offered and positions filled all increased again this year, continuing the same trends seen over the last several years. The number of unmatched applicants and unfilled positions also both increased.

All programs except ORTH saw increases in their applicant pools, as measured by the number of applicants that ranked those program types in the Match. AEGD and ANES had the most significant increases, 13% and 14% respectively. AEGD and ANES programs offered more positions and matched to more applicants than ever before.

OMS had similar growth in applicants and positions offered which resulted in more matches and fewer unfilled positions. In contrast, PED grew its positions at a faster rate than its applicant pool and showed an increase in the number of unfilled positions.

GPR entered the Match with a relatively stable pool of applicants and positions. The number of unfilled GPR positions increased which breaks the trend of the last several years.

* The sum of the number of applicants ranking each program type exceeds the total number of applicants participating in the Match because some applicants rank more than one program type. Applicants who rank a particular type of program but are not matched to that type of program may be unmatched or may have been matched to a different program type.
