Applicant Registration
Applicants who wish to register for the ASHP Resident Matching Program for pharmacy residency positions beginning in
2009 should follow the procedures outlined below.
Prior to Registering
- Carefully review the information provided on this web site that describes how the Match works. In particular, review the Overview section, including the Eligibility criteria and Participation Agreements, as well as the section describing the Match Process, including the Example and Discussion. You may wish to print those pages for future reference.
- Review the ASHP Match Rules and Schedule of Dates provided on this web site. All participants must abide by these rules and dates. Copies of these pages are included in the document containing the Applicant Agreement, which can be downloaded by following the instructions provided at the bottom of this page. Alternatively, you can also print the pages displayed on this web site for future reference.
Procedure for Registering
- To register for the Match, you must send to National Matching Services Inc. a signed Applicant Agreement, together with the non-refundable $110 U.S. applicant registration fee.
- You should download and print the Applicant Agreement by following the instructions provided at the bottom of this page. The file that you download includes a memorandum of instructions, which you should read carefully before completing the Agreement, as well as the ASHP Match Rules and the Schedule of Dates.
- Two applicants who wish to coordinate their matches (e.g., obtain positions in the same geographic location) may participate in the Match as a "Couple". Each applicant must first register to participate in the Match as an individual; applicants identify themselves as a couple when they submit their Rank Order Lists for the Match. Click here to obtain further instructions for participating in the Match as a couple.
- Applicants should register for the Match by January 9, 2009. Some programs require applicants to register for the Match before submitting their applications; therefore, applicants are encouraged to register as soon as possible.
- Following receipt of your Applicant Agreement and fee, National Matching Services Inc. will send to you, either by e-mail or by regular mail, a confirmation of the information on file for you, including your applicant Code Number for the Match. You should provide your applicant Code Number to the programs to which you apply.
Applications to Programs
- Information on residency programs can be obtained from the online ASHP Residency Directory, which is available on the ASHP web site at www.ashp.org (under the tab for Accreditation, select the link to the Online Residency Directory).
- Registration for the Match does NOT constitute an application to any of the programs participating in the Match. You must still apply directly to any and all programs in which you are interested. Application deadlines for programs vary; therefore, you should check with each program as soon as possible regarding its application deadline dates.
