All programs and applicants that register to participate in the Match must agree to abide by certain terms of participation, as summarized below. (To view the full Applicant Agreement click here.)
All participating programs and applicants must abide by the Rules of the ASHP Pharmacy Resident Matching Program ("ASHP Match Rules") as established by the ASHP, and must also abide by the Schedule of Dates of the Match.
Participating programs must offer all pharmacy residency positions through the Match, except for Department of Defense and Public Health Service positions offered exclusively to commissioned pharmacy officers. Programs may not make any offers of appointment to, or require any commitments from, any applicant prior to the release of the Match results, except for PGY2 residency positions that may be committed to PGY1 residents in accordance with the Early Commitment Process.
Similarly, applicants may not make any commitments to any participating program prior to the release of the Match results, except that a PGY1 resident may commit to a PGY2 residency position that is offered to the applicant in accordance with the Early Commitment Process. If an applicant decides to accept a position that is not offered through the matching process, or decides not to participate in the Match for any other reason, then the applicant must submit a withdrawal from the Match and must not submit a Rank Order List for the Match.
Programs may not communicate their ranking intentions to applicants, or request that any applicant state how any program will be ranked on the applicant's Rank Order List. Similarly, applicants may not communicate their ranking intentions to programs, or request information on how any participating program intends to rank any applicant. The Rank Order Lists submitted by each program and applicant are the sole determinants of their respective order of preferences for the Match.
The Match results constitute a binding commitment from which neither the applicant nor the program can withdraw without mutual written agreement. A program must offer an appointment to each applicant with whom it is matched, and the applicant must accept the offer from the program, unless both parties agree in writing to release each other from the Match result. A program may not offer a position to any applicant who was matched elsewhere, or committed elsewhere through the Early Commitment Process, and subsequently not released from that residency.
Violations of the terms of the Agreements or the ASHP Match Rules will be reported to the ASHP. The ASHP may decide to impose penalties on those who violate the Agreements or the Match Rules.
