Withdrawing From The Match

If you accept a position at a program that is not participating in the Match, or if you decide not to submit any rankings of programs for the Match for any other reason, you must withdraw yourself from the Match by the Rank Order List deadline (February 26, 2010 at 11:59 p.m. EST). Every applicant who registers for the Match must either submit a Rank Order List of programs or withdraw from the Match by February 26, 2010.

Note: Applicants who withdraw from the Match will not be matched to a position. However, withdrawn applicants are permitted to seek positions after the Match. They will be able to access information from this web site on positions that remain available after the Match.

You must withdraw yourself from the Match using the online system provided on this web site. Detailed instructions for using the online system are provided elsewhere on this web site. To sign on to the online system, select the option from the menu on the left for Registered Applicants-My Profile, then enter your 5-digit applicant Code Number and password/PIN. The page that is displayed after you sign on will show your current status in the Match. Select the appropriate link to withdraw from the Match, then follow the instructions provided on the screen to complete the withdrawal process. As part of the withdrawal process, you will be asked to provide a reason for withdrawing by selecting from a predefined set of choices.

If you withdraw, any rankings of programs you may have submitted will not be used in the Match. If you submit and certify any rankings of participating programs and you do not withdraw by the Rank Order List deadline, your rankings will be included in the Match. If you are matched with a program, you must accept the position with which you are matched, as described in the Applicant Agreement and in the APPCN Match Policies. Violations of the policies of the Match will be reported to the APPCN Board of Directors. The APPCN Board may decide to impose penalties on those who violate the policies.

Reinstating Yourself to Participate in the Match

If you withdraw but subsequently decide to submit rankings of programs for the Match, you can reinstate yourself through the online system prior to the Rank Order List deadline (February 26, 2010 at 11:59 p.m. EST). Select the option from the menu on the left for Registered Applicants-My Profile, then enter your 5-digit applicant Code Number and password/PIN. The page that is displayed after you sign on will show your current status in the Match. Select the appropriate link to reinstate yourself in the Match, then follow the instructions provided on the screen to complete the process.
