Applicant Registration
Students who wish to register for the AOA Intern/Resident Registration Program (the "Match") for positions beginning in 2009 should follow the procedures outlined below:
Prior to Registering
- Carefully review the information provided on this web site that describes the AOA Intern/Resident Registration Program. In particular, review the Description section in its entirety. You should print that section for future reference.
- Review the Schedule of Dates provided on this web site. All Match participants must abide by the dates noted on the Schedule of Dates. You should print that page for future reference.
Procedure for Registering
- To register for the Match, you must submit a signed Applicant Agreement, along with the non-refundable $60 U.S. registration fee, to National Matching Services Inc. ("NMS").
- You should download and print the Applicant Agreement from this web site by following the instructions provided at the bottom of this page. The file that you download includes a memorandum of instructions, which you should read carefully before completing the Agreement.
- The Applicant Agreement requires you to provide your 6 digit AOA ID Number, which has already been assigned to you by the AOA. If you do not know your AOA ID Number, please contact your Dean's office or the AOA Member Services Center at 800-621-1773 (select option 1).
- Two students who wish to coordinate their matches (e.g., obtain positions in the same geographic location) may participate in the Match as a "Couple". Each student must first register to participate in the Match as an individual; students identify themselves as a couple when they submit their Rank Order Lists for the Match. Click here to obtain further instructions for participating in the Match as a couple.
- It is recommended that students register for the Match before October 10, 2008. Only signed Applicant Agreements, including the AOA ID Number and submitted with the registration fee, will be accepted by NMS.
- Following receipt of your Applicant Agreement, NMS will send to you, either by e-mail or by regular mail, a confirmation of the information on file for you, including your Code Number for the Match. You should provide your Match Code Number to the programs to which you apply.
Applications to Programs
- Registration for the Match does NOT constitute an application to any of the programs participating in the Match. You must still apply directly to any and all programs in which you are interested.
- Applications are submitted to programs using the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). ERAS is a separate and distinct service from the Match, and students must register to use ERAS separately from registering for the Match. ERAS is used by students to apply to programs, while the Match determines the final placement of students into programs. Information on the use of ERAS to apply to osteopathic programs is available on the AOA's web site at www.do-online.org.
